It is the eighth volume of the series Rediscovering Gandhi edited by Prof. R.P. Misra. Most of the papers included in this volume were presented and discussed in a conference on Gandhi and Peace Studies organized by the Gandhi Centre, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi during 2014. In all, it contains 20 chapters including an Introduction by the editors. The papers included in the volume were contributed by well-known scholars from different parts of India and cover various aspects of Gandhian economics and its contemporary relevance. The papers included in the volume have been grouped into two parts: Part I: Understanding Gandhian Economics, Part II: Gandhian Model of Economic Development. Chapter 1, introduces the theme of the book and in a way summarizes what the 19 papers included in the volume tell in great details. Part I consists of 9 papers that focus on the theory of Gandhian economics as enunciated in Hind Swaraj, dwells on the myths surrounding Gandhian economics, and explains the relevance of Gandhian economics even in the present era of globalization, industrialization, liberalization and privatization. And Part II has 10 papers that focus on Gandhian model of economic development with special reference to Swadeshi, Village Republic, and Khadi and Village Industries.
