This book covers the basic science of nuclear medicine along with health physics as relevant to nuclear medicine. This edition of the book is with some changes, from its first edition published in 2008. All the chapters have been thoroughly revised by the authors in the light of present knowledge on the subject. Few new chapters in dosimetry and PET/MRI have also been added. The book has 41 chapters, divided into six parts. The first part is devoted to basic atomic and nuclear physics, radioactivity, interaction of radiation, counting statistics, radiation detectors, in-vitro and in-vivo detection of radiation (planar and SPECT imaging with complete QC procedures), image filtering, image quality and Fourier transform. The second part is on dosimetry for internal emitters, dosimetry in radioiodine therapy, dosimetric considerations in Lutetium based targeted therapy, dosimetric aspects in radioembolisation with 90Y microspheres and 188Re-HDD-Lipiodol for HCC and dosimetry in diagnostic nuclear medicine using OLINDA/EXM software. The third part describes radionuclides used in medicine, radiopharmacy for diagnostic nuclear medicine (planer, SPECT and PET imaging) and their applications in clinical nuclear medicine. The fourth part is devoted to medical cyclotron, PET/CT (basic physics, instrumentation and performance evaluation), PET/CT technical aspects and image registration, correction techniques, applications of PET/CT in clinical nuclear medicine and in radiotherapy treatment planning, basic principles of CT and MR imaging. Introduction to PET/MRI and its clinical application are the two new chapters added in this edition. The fifth part includes some of the quantification techniques in nuclear medicine, such as background subtraction (in renography), deconvolution analysis and renal transit time parameters, and tracer kinetics. The sixth is on health physics which includes radiobiological concepts, radiobiological basis of radiological protection, ICRP recommendations, radiation safety in nuclear medicine and diagnostic reference levels. Students and teachers in nuclear medicine and allied sciences will find this book useful. Contents - Part - I Basic Physics and Imaging Techniques 1. Basic Atomic and Nuclear Physics - G.S.
