India is a land inhabited by peoples of different faiths and cultures. They have lived together, but surprisingly adopted together, but surprisingly adopted calculated aloofness towards the rites and rituals of other religious communities. The book attempts to discourage such attitudes and instead creates a national ethos that may lead to an appreciation of their elegance and profundity. The same applies to festivals. Not only followers of a particular religion, but all should be encouraged to participate in festivals, there by forging a spirit of brotherliness, which is the main purpose.
This book has been divided in two parts; the first deals with rites, rituals, ceremonies or sacraments ; the second part describes festivals observed and celebrated in the country.
