This handbook is intended to inform two important aspects of research in Indology, namely, the scope of research in Sanskrit sources and its relevancy in the present day society. It provides a general understanding of different areas of studies on various aspects of Indian cultural heritage based on Sanskrit Literature and of the principles of textual criticism. The Book is divided in three parts dealing with methodology, structure and writing. The characteristic features of various methods of research are discussed in ‘methodology’. The research materials and the aids to reach those materials are explained in ‘structure’. Guidelines and strategies for research procedure from the selection of the research topic upto the production of thesis are dealt with in ‘writing’. The appendixes on the origin of Indian scripts and some important manuscripts collections are also included to make the book self sufficient to gain full picture of the Sanskrit studies.
