This book, Japanese Literature in Indian Translations: Issues and Challenges, has emanated from the research papers presented in the two-day international seminar on “State of Japanese Literature in Indian Translations: Reception and Appreciation”, held at JNU during 26-27 October 2016. It is divided in to three parts. The first part contains thirteen papers in English, mainly dealing with theoretical frameworks and practical problems of translation in general and Japanese to Indian languages in particular. One of the papers in this section also provides an updated, detailed account of translations of Japanese literary works into Indian languages till now. The second part contains five research papers in Japanese, mainly dealing with the various practical problems of translation when Japanese literary texts are translated into Indian vernaculars. The third part of this book is a compilation of translation of ‘Ameni mo makezu’, a famous poem by Miyazawa Kenji, in thirteen Indian languages besides English.
