The book outlines the working of the Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in India with a North East perspective. One of the main factors behind the economic backwardness of North East India is the financial exclusion, under banking, a low credit deposit ratio and poor entrepreneurial support.
The present study critically evaluates the working and performance of RRBs in the country with a special reference to Mizoram, a small hilly tribal state. The study examines different aspects of the growth story of RRBs touching upon their performance in terms of deposit mobilization, advances, borrowings and investments, CD Ratio and profitability.
Further, the study focuses on the working and performance of Mizoram Rural Bank (MRB) from the perceptions of the borrowers. The work addresses the pertinent challenges faced by the RRBs and offers specific recommendations for the governments, policy makers, banking industry and other stakeholders interested in the balanced regional development, inclusive banking and entrepreneurship development.
