This book, as the title suggests, represents a layman’s attempt to document some of the wild flora to which he was introduced, starting in the year 1980, by BNHS (Bombay Natural History Society) during visits conducted in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park of Mumbai. The title of the book was driven by the need to have a single word, Greek or Latin if need be, for convenience. There is an impressive line-up of species having compound tri-foliate leaves with all sorts of variations, so the Latin word ‘TERNATA’ (which means ‘in threes’) appeared appropriate. And the subtitle makes it clear that this is a layman’s essay on the subject, so one understandably expects criticism from the experts to be muted. The book contains a detailed account of varied plant families of wild flora found in Sanjay Gandhi National Park along with descriptions and illustrations of individual plants. The Author is hopeful this book will go a long way in helping students/ researchers undertaking studies of wild flora ! All the illustrations in the book are colored for better clarity in identification of the flora.
