This Catalogue of Mackenzie Kaifiyats with 2028 entries, gives information of availability of manuscripts of Kaifiyats. The term Kaifiyat is used mostly for the record of village information belonging to 18th and 19th centuries. Colonel Colin Mackenzie (1754 -1821), the first Surveyor General of India has collected huge amount of manuscripts of mainly south Indian Languages. Among them Telugu manuscripts are more in number and kaifiyats are considerably more. Kaifiyats containing village information about administration, agriculture, flora & fauna, cultural affairs etc., were collected by Mackenzie during 1780 – 1820 in the form of manuscripts. They also carry copies of inscriptions, orders of the rulers etc. documents. These are all source material for researchers in the area of Telugu language, culture and society.
