In the annals of our history we have often overlooked the impact that the Second World War had on our own people and culture in Northeast India. In this remote region several battles were fought. The terrain was difficult, compounded by harsh weather, making these battles amongst the most bitterly fought of the Second World War. These stories of war make up an important repository of memories and lived heritage. This volume by a young Manipuri scholar has captured these poignant memories of a turbulent period in our history. In a range of interviews he has vividly brought to life, forgotten stories and anecdotes which recall privations undergone by the hapless people and their sturdy courage. The book highlights the role of Manipur and its people in this chapter of world history.
