By nature archaeology is a very adventurous subject but it becomes more adventurous when we are to deal with abnormal circumstances. In this book we have dealt with circumstances where courage was required. In the past while laying out roads and bridges, standing temples and sculptures were mercilessly pulled down and utilized without bothering about the sentiment of the society. One unique example recently came to light in Bastar in Chhattisgarh where due to religious intolerance near Dantewada, the culprit pulled down one of the best Ganesh monolithic sculpture of the Chhindakanaga dynasty dating back to 1100 A.D. was restored in order to satisfy the sentiment of the locals, rebuilt the Ganesh statue within five days. We could see the joy in the eyes of locals. Second case is about the recovery of sculptures from Kathua Pulia near Rajanandgaon. Third case was of Harappan skeletan from Lothal and Kalibanga and Neolithic burial from Burjhom.
