This study aims to highlight one of the basic factors in the genesis and development of Social and Cultural researches in India. An attempt has been made to record and review the researches that have been conducted by the social scientists on Indian Society. Written with the anthropological bias the first volume is devoted to review the ethnographic researches on tribal culture of the different parts of India and includes a theoretical and methodological appraisal of the studies of social change among the tribes of India. The second volume evaluates the researches of Indian and foreign scholars in the field of village, urban and industrial complexes and caste, psycho-social religious as well as Folklore studies. Biographical sketches of eminent anthropologists have also been included in the second volume. With this comprehensive coverage, this study fulfills in the knowledge of social anthropological research in India.
