Postharvest Management of Horticultural Crops
This book presents almost all the aspects of postharvest management of horticultural crops in a comprehensive manner. All the chapters of the book are based on the contents of different courses on postharvest technology offered both at UG and PG levels in the Agricultural and Horticultural Universities. It is also suitable for the courses offered for the degree of Ph. D. in Post Harvest Technology. This book covers the concept of postharvest technology i.e. the activities performed and techniques applied after harvesting of crops for extending shelf-life and reducing postharvest losses, to marketing of horticultural produce, and transfer of postharvest technology for increasing farmers’ income. It also covers food quality and food safety aspects which help in preventing contamination of disease causing pathogenic microorganisms, misuse of food additives and contaminants, and adulteration. With its detailed coverage along with relevant illustrations, and simple and systematic way of presentation, this book is a valuable text cum reference book for the students in acquiring knowledge on different topics of postharvest technology, and also for the instructors in preparing class lectures and formulating different research programmes.
