About the Author Nicholas Eakins is a professional freelance photographer specialising in the mountainous areas of south and south-east Asia. Having provided images for numerous publications and books over the years, he has also worked with the Royal Geographical Society. In recent years, Nicholas has photographed and written several books on Ladakh including guidebooks. Originally from England, Nicholas has been photographing the western Himalayas for more than 32 years. In his early days there, he would hear tales about a magical place called Ladakh (a mini-Tibet he was told) that lies to the north of the Great Himalaya Range.
